We built the organic traffic almost from scratch
An industry with high competition.
Building a page's SEO in a competitive field requires the right partner.
The case in numbers
A big increase right from the start. Not just in visitors, but relevant visitors.
From 64 to 1112 in monthly organic traffic
Growth is measured from July 2021 to December 2022.

The initial analysis
Greatwine.dk is in an industry where there are many large players. Greatwine.dk was also a site without any particular strength, which is why it was important to build super sharp optimized content from the start (described further below). Furthermore, building the site’s link building profile was also extremely relevant (described further below). Without these elements, the site would not be able to rank. In addition, it was important to do the initial keyword analysis with a focus on the keywords that would actually give results. If you had started out by trying and ranking on only “red wine”, “white wine” or similar, you would most likely not have gotten to page 1, where all the traffic is, within a “fun” time horizon. This is due to many large players who were already far ahead in terms of SEO strength. We obviously also worked on these words, but here we worked with a more long-term perspective. At the same time, we also wanted to produce some results faster that could be felt on the bottom line (which we succeeded to a large extent, cf. the figures above). What we did here was to do an extended keyword analysis and find a long list of more specific underlying keywords that were still super relevant, but did not have the same competition. One example (out of many) was “amarone della valpolicella 2019”. Here we found a keyword that admittedly had a slightly lower search volume, but since the search is much more specific, you often see a higher conversion rate. In addition, the search had a low KD (keyword difficulty = the difficulty of a keyword). We focused on this keyword, as well as a long list of others, in our work with content, link building and technical SEO, which is described further below.

Content i denne case
The advantage of a case like this being relatively new in terms of SEO is that there is not as much content to “clean up”. Of this, it was more about finding the right keywords and having optimized content prepared and implemented. In preparing this, we worked closely with Greatwine.dk, where they both prepared content that we optimized and in addition we also prepared optimized content that they approved before publication. In the content process, it was obviously important to follow general technical aspects, such as headline structure, keyword density, SEO title, meta description, alt tags in images, etc. We were 100% responsible for this. In addition, it was also important, as is the case in all cases, not to simply write some text for the sake of text. It is important to deliver real value. Answer relevant questions and help potential buyers on their way. Through general keyword analysis and competitor analysis, we found out what exactly “good content” would be in this case. However, content alone could not rank in this case, as they had a very weak link building profile when we started.

Linkbuilding
In the analysis tool Ahrefs, there is a metric called domain rating (DR). In short, this is an indicator of the strength of the page based on the number of backlinks (Referring domains). It is important not to stare blindly at DR, as Google does not have a criterion called DR, however, DR is a very good indicator of the strength of a page. When we started work in July 2021, the page had a DR of 1. In December 2022, the page had a DR of 27. This increase has occurred on the basis of quality SEO do-follow backlinks, which we at Acend have largely been responsible for building. This is a significant increase in strength, which together with content has resulted in the nice increase in traffic. In the process of building links, you can probably sit and think: “how do you build links?”. We have four general approaches that we always use (and also did here): 1. link building network, 2. outreach strategy, 3. we own a large number of pages ourselves, 4. purchased links. However, it is very important to note at number 4 that this is not something that you should use much longer. Google last came up with an update to their AI spambrain in December 2022, which in short goes in and neutralizes purchased links. However, we can see that it still has an effect if you do a proper analysis of the link quality. However, this is not something that should be your primary link building strategy. Technical SEO
Greatwine.dk was a relatively new site, so not many “mistakes” had been made along the way. However, we did what we always do, which was to conduct a site audit of the site in Ahrefs. This particularly gave a list of orphan pages and broken links, which we went in and cleaned up. In addition, there were some URLs that we chose to go in and create 301 redirects on to create shorter and simpler URLs and/or URLs that were more consistent with the actual keyword found in the keyword analysis.
